# Upgrading Comfy Labs

If you are needing to update Comfy-Labs, follow these steps. Nothing in your install dir, models, or settings will be touched -- you are only swapping the small app shell.

## Steps

1. **Quit Comfy Labs.** Close the app window. If you want to be extra safe, open Task Manager and confirm no `Comfy Labs.exe` or `python.exe` processes are still running.

2. **Download** `ComfyLabs-vX.X.XX.zip` from the same place you got the previous build (the **Download** button on the in-app update banner, or whichever distribution page your beta access points at).

3. **Unzip** to a new folder next to your current one. For example, if you have:
   ```
   W:\ComfyLabs-vX.X.XX-OLD\Comfy Labs.exe
   ```
   unzip the new one to:
   ```
   W:\ComfyLabs-vX.X.XX\
   ```
   Do **not** overwrite the old folder. Putting them side-by-side gives you an instant rollback if anything goes wrong.

4. **Launch** `W:\ComfyLabs-vX.X.XX\Comfy Labs.exe`.

5. The app should:
   - Skip the wizard (`Config found; skipping wizard` will appear in the log)
   - Open straight to the welcome screen with **Open Workflows** enabled within a few seconds
   - List all your installed workflows as **Ready** in Settings
   - Show **Start ComfyUI** in the toolbar (the backend is lazy-spawned on first request; cold start is 60--120s)

6. Once you have confirmed `ComfyLabs-vX.X.XX` works, **you can delete the old `W:\ComfyLabs-vX.X.XX-OLD\` folder**. It is about 200 MB of dead app shell. Optional -- it does no harm sitting there.

## What stays untouched

Everything outside the app folder you replaced:

You will **not** re-run the wizard, re-download models, re-install PyTorch, or rebuild custom nodes. Total upgrade time should be under a minute.

## Do NOT use the uninstaller

`Uninstall-Comfy-Labs.bat` is for **complete removal** -- it deletes your venv, ComfyUI clone, all models, and the config. For a version upgrade you do not want any of that. Just unzip and launch.

## If something goes wrong

Roll back by relaunching the old `W:\ComfyLabs-vX.X.XX-OLD\Comfy Labs.exe`. Both versions read the same config and install dir, so switching back is instant.

Then click **Support Log** in the toolbar to export a fresh report ZIP and send it over.
